Commemorating South Africa's National Youth Day

South Africa's National Youth Day is a day of remembrance and celebration. It commemorates the young scholars who stood up against the injustices of Apartheid that made their way into the education system in South Africa. This day is observed on June 16 each year, in honour of the brave young people who risked and lost their lives in 1976.

The theme for this year's event is to embrace every scholar who stood up in 1976 by celebrating those who are young at heart. Many of those who were teenagers during the 1976 uprising still have young hearts and dreams. It is up to us to celebrate the good that they hoped to see, amidst the sad memories of the uprising.

We must remember the sacrifices made by those who came before us. We must honour their legacy by continuing to fight for equality and justice, and by empowering the youth of today to become the leaders of tomorrow. This is a day to celebrate the resilience and determination of young people, and to inspire a new generation to take up the mantle of social justice and equality.

Let us take this opportunity to celebrate the young at heart, to honour the memory of those who fought for a better future, and to recommit ourselves to building a society that is just, equitable, and inclusive for all.
